Les Skolnik is thrilled to be on the Summit Academy staff team as the Social Studies Learning Specialist. Prior to joining the Summit team, Mr. Skolnik was an Education Consultant focusing on Teen Engagement at The Jewish Education Project in Manhattan. In this capacity Mr. Skolnik facilitated professional learning networks and professional development programs, and coached educators in Jewish experiential education practices. Prior to his work at The Jewish Education Project, Mr. Skolnik was the Director of Youth Engagement at North Shore Synagogue in Syosset, NY. In this capacity Mr. Skolnik directed all of the synagogue’s youth programming, teen experiential education, and special education initiatives. Mr. Skolnik has been an educator, youth worker, and youth development specialist for over fifteen years, having served Jewish organizations and schools in Manhattan, Long Island, and Buffalo, NY. Mr. Skolnik has also worked on campus with college students as the Director of Jewish Student Life at the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Skolnik holds a B.A. in History from SUNY Buffalo and a Master’s degree in Inclusive Secondary Social Studies Education from Hofstra University and is a New York State certified teacher in secondary Social Studies and Special Education. Mr. Skolnik also holds a certificate in advanced study in Adolescent Development and Experiential Education for Adolescents and Emerging Adults from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Mr. Skolnik is excited about returning to the classroom to teach social studies and to work with the scholars of Summit academy. In his spare time, Mr. Skolnik sees as much live music as possible, loves to travel, and can often be found exploring New York City with his camera while trying to improve his skills as a photographer.
