Middle School

Introduction to the Middle School

Summit Academy provides a seamless path to college beginning in the middle school years. With three years to strengthen foundational skills, develop work habits and personal characteristics that lead to success, and invigorate a college purpose, middle school scholars are prepared to enter high school without the need to adjust to a new environment with different expectations. While the high school is structured to meet the increasing academic challenges and developmental needs of maturing scholars, the mission and core beliefs will be a constant. This consistency minimizes an adjustment period between middle and high school for some of New York’s most at-risk children and allows a focus on the end goal: preparation for a competitive college.

Middle School curriculum focuses on building a foundation of skills and knowledge in the core content areas of reading and writing, mathematics and science. We believe that it is essential to remediate and ensure that scholars have essential foundational skills in order to accelerate their progress. We provide over twice the amount of instructional minutes in literacy and math daily in comparison to local public schools and offer an array of essential courses to strengthen the analytical and critical thinking skills of our scholars.

At Summit Academy the scholars use the iReady program. “iReady is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. iReady allows your teacher(s) to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains.
